About Patrick Markl

Hi, my name is Patrick Markl. I’m an engineer, photographer, and part-time adventurer.

I live in southern Germany with my family. My daily life is shaped by engineering, technology, and problem solving. But every now and then I feel the need to step away from screens, deadlines, and structured routines.

That’s when I head north.

The landscapes of the northern parts of Europe have a special kind of magic. Vast forests, endless coastlines, quiet lakes, and weather that changes faster than you expect. It’s a place where nature still feels wild and untouched, and where silence can stretch for miles.

Most of my journeys are simple. I travel alone, usually by car or on my motorbike, carrying little more than my camera and the essentials. I prefer gravel roads over highways and remote places over crowded destinations. The goal is not luxury, but freedom, solitude, and the chance to experience nature up close.

Photography has become the natural companion to these trips. A way to slow down, observe the light, and capture small moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

This website is my journal. A place where I document my travels, share stories from the road, and show the landscapes I encounter along the way as a travelling photographer.
